Iron Mountain is in the west half of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, in Dickinson County. It was established in 1879, after rich iron deposits were discovered.

The Menomonee Range Historical Foundation Museum displays local history, spanning from American Indian habitation to present. It features chronological displays and re-created period rooms.

The Cornish Pumping Engine and Mining Museum features one of the largest steam engines built in North America. It also has mining equipment and artifacts.

The Iron Mountain Iron Mine is no longer operational, but guided rail tours that include demonstration of machinery are available.
