The town has a historic railroad (Erie) and canal (D & H Canal). The Erie Railroad Station and the neighboring Erie Hotel has been restored, and work is underway to restore the original turntable.

Port Jervis is minutes from High Point State Park and the Kittatinny Mountains. Also nearby are the Pocono Mountains, the Catskeill Mountains, High Point State Park, and the Delaware River.
