SurroundingsCheboygan River Cottage is an in-town river property on the Cheboygan River, which is the top end of a vast Inland Waterway going south. The waterway consists of miles and miles of interconnecting lakes and rivers, offering some of the very best in Michigan boating, swimming, water skiing, and fishing. County boat launch and trailer parking is just down the street at the Lincoln Bridge. Boat rentals readily available in town. Nearby recreation includes golf, tennis, hiking, bicycling, horseback riding, snowmobiling, and hunting. The Mackinaw Bridge, gateway to the vast outdoor wonderland of the famous upper peninsula, is only a short fourteen mile scenic drive along the south shore of Lake Huron, as is the Ferry Landing to the magical old world charm of beautiful Mackinaw Island. A day trip treat the whole family will enjoy immensely. For boat and pontoon boat rentals, just up river at the north end of Mullett Lake, which is the most popular way to get a family in and around this fabulous Inland Waterway of interconnecting lakes and rivers, we recommend the Mullett Lake Marina, www.mullettlakemarina.com/rentals.htm The entrance to the Black River is just about a river mile up the Cheboygan River from our Cottage.....My children and grand children often fish the Black......Very productive......The impressive bass catch, caught by my son Chris, shown in our photo gallery, was caught at our "hotspot" at the entrance to Mullett Lake, also just a scenic couple miles up the Cheboygan. The entrance area at Mullett Lake is shallow enough for children, with warm clear water and white sand underfoot. It is a fabulous spot to bring the family for a great day picnicking and swimming and tubing. Rent a pontoon boat, just a short distance away at the marina, to make the trip up the river.Another great adventure for the kids, is the Thunder Falls Waterpark, another scenic fourteen mile drive, about twenty minutes northwest along the Lake Huron shore to Mackinaw City. This waterpark is considered to be the best in all of Michigan. My little ones agree with this!!
