Accommodation Details

Built in 1956 of cedar tongue-and-groove planks, the Green Lake cottage interior has been mostly renovated, maintaining the charm of the original construction and warm wood walls. Huge windows face the lake. This cottage sleeps 6 in 2 double beds and 2 twins. A lovely free-standing soap stone gas stove provides atmosphere and warmth.

Furnished in Heywood-Wakefield Modern furniture; step into the 50’s during your visit.

The cottage faces the sunset on the Green Lake Penninsula.

The vacation cottage has 3 bedrooms/1 bath and has heat, a deck, fireplace, cable TV and VCR. The fully-equipped kitchen has a coffee maker, microwave, dishes, and pots and pans. Please bring linens and towels.

Out on the deck, enjoy the lake view from the dining table. Down the steps to the lake and dock, you can swim or fish from the rowboat.

The lake is sand and gravel mix – no muddy bottoms here! The lakefront property has a picnic table and barbecue grill.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome. Smoking is allowed outside only. The house is not handicapped accessible.

Surroundings

The cottage is secluded and quiet, and the property is wooded. Nearby water recreation includes swimming, snorkeling, fishing, water skiing, and canoeing. Other nearby recreation includes golf, tennis, hiking, bicycling, horseback riding, snowmobiling, downhill and cross-country skiing, and hunting.

Green Lake covers 2063 acres and has a water depth of 102 feet. Fish include rainbow and brown trout, large- and small-mouth bass, perch, and pike.

Summer in Northern Michigan? Well, what can we say? Warm weather and lake breezes bless our homes. Enjoy dazzling sunsets from the living room or deck. Swim, boat or fish from the docks. Soak up the sun and swim in the clean water of the lakes.

Mountain bike on our bike routes and quiet wooded lanes and trails. Hike the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Canoe or kayak the beautiful, nearby rivers and get a look at one of our resident bald eagles, otters or beaver dams. Golf courses abound from 3-par courses to very challenging ones. Rent a sailboat or Jetski or bring your own. There’s charter fishing on Grand Traverse Bay and Lake Michigan or try a romantic hot air balloon ride.

Located 5 minutes from the Interlochen Center for the Arts, you can enjoy first rate entertainment. Classical music and dance concerts are given daily by the international students and faculty. Make a special date with Lyle Lovett, the Doobie Brothers, or the Count Basie Big Band. There’s something to please all musical tastes.

It’s just a half hour drive to Traverse City. Come for the National Cherry Festival or one of our wooden or classic boat shows. Stroll on the boardwalk by the Boardman River in downtown. Head in for the weekly Farmer’s Market where fresh fruits and vegetables abound.

You’re never far from a great restaurant. Try our local fare: Sunday Brunch or the Monday Night T-Bone Special at the Hofbrau in Interlochen. Treat yourself to fine dining at one of the country French restaurants in Leelanau County. Wherever you go, be sure to try to great local whitefish, lake perch or walleye.

It’s a short drive to Leelanau County or the Old Mission peninsula where you can take a tasting tour to try the fine wines now produced in the area. Our personal favorite is Larry Mawby’s Vineyard just south of Suttons Bay. Larry makes beautiful sparkling wines that rival any from California or France, and he’s working towards being certified as an organic vineyard. (Don’t forget your designated driver for the day!)
